NEW YEAR-2022 PROVIDES NEW BENEFITS FOR PROPERTY OWNERS WITH HOMESTEAD EXEMPTIONS
PITTSBURG, Texas – Camp Central Appraisal District reminds property owners who own and live on a property in Camp County to save money on the amount of property taxes they pay by filing for their HOMESTEAD exemption.
Property owners have several types of homestead exemptions available to them. The general homestead exemption is available, plus exemptions for people who are 65 years old or older. In addition, people and veterans with disabilities, and the surviving spouses of service members or first responders killed in the line of duty. To be eligible for a homestead exemption, a property owner must own and occupy a property.
As of January 1st of 2022, a change in state law allows for property owners to claim a homestead exemption as of the date they own and live on a property they claim as their primary residence instead of waiting until the new year to be eligible.
In May of 2022, voters will decide whether to increase the homestead exemption for school districts from $25,000 to $40,000 and adjust tax ceilings for property owners who have an over 65 or disabled person exemption.
If you have not already filed a homestead exemption application with Camp Central Appraisal District, and you qualify, please call or come by the appraisal district at (903) 856-6538 – 143 Quitman Street in Pittsburg.
